»Direkte Auktion« – The Art Scene Helps Itself

Direkte Auktion (Direct Auction) is an initiative of the auction house Jeschke van Vliet in cooperation with the Zentrale Intelligenz Agentur Berlin. The first Direkte Auktion helps the Berlin art scene itself in times of the pandemic. From November 26th to 28th, more than 400 works are auctioned in Berlin and online, including works from Elias Wessel, Neo Rauch, Rosemarie Trockel, Martin Kippenberger, Sigmar Polke, Joseph Beuys and Georg Baselitz. Two third of the proceeds go to the involved artists. The initiators Bettina Semmer, Holm Friebe and Jeschke van Vliet as well as all participating curators, gallery owners and artists set an example with this cross-border and – above all – solidarity idea. Among others Deutschlandfunk Kultur, Monopol, Süddeutsche Zeitung, TAZ and Weltkunst report about the initiative. A catalogue is published with kind support by the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Europe. Elias Wessel‘s Landscapes II (Kursk Edition, 2014), curated by Mirjam Siefert & Fares Al-Hassan, was auctioned on the first day of the initiative.
