Ruth Horak lives near Vienna where she is art historian, curator and author with a focus on contemporary photography, photo theory and media reflexivity since 1999. Her projects are about the characteristics of photography, the potential of the medium beyond its news function and the future of photography, because: While everyone takes photographs, some can engage with photography (Fotohof Salzburg, 2020). She has conceived exhibitions together with artists* and institutions (FOTOTECHNIKA), in cooperation with art universities (Reload the Apparatus) as well as from the Austrian Federal Photo Collection (Biography of Images). She has written numerous essays on artists and photo theory (most recently on Elias Wessel, Günther Selichar, Fiona Tan and Adrian Sauer), and is (co-)editor of readers (e.g. Rethinking Photography) and artists' books on photography, such as Photography as Motif (with C. Heider, L. Rastl, C. Rohrauer).

Ruth Horak lebt in der Nähe von Wien und arbeitet seit 1999 als Kunsthistorikerin, Kuratorin und Autorin mit den Schwerpunkten zeitgenössische Fotografie, Fototheorie und Medienreflexivität. Ihre Projekte handeln von den Eigenschaften der Fotografie, dem Potential des Mediums abseits seiner Nachrichtenfunktion und von der Zukunft der Fotografie, denn: Während alle fotografieren, können sich manche mit der Fotografie beschäftigen (Fotohof Salzburg, 2020). Sie hat Ausstellungen gemeinsam mit Künstler*innen und Institutionen (FOTOTECHNIKA) konzipiert, in Kooperation mit Kunstuniversitäten (Reload the Apparatus) sowie aus der österreichischen Fotosammlung des Bundes (Biografie der Bilder). Sie hat zahlreiche Essays über Künstler*innen und Fototheorie verfasst (zuletzt etwa über Elias Wessel, Günther Selichar, Fiona Tan oder Adrian Sauer), ist (Mit)Herausgeberin von Readern (z.B.
